Item Description

Skates worn by Toronto Maple Leafs all-star forward Auston Matthews during a portion of the 2021-22 National Hockey League season, including a stretch of games played on April 2nd vs the Philadelphia Flyers, April 4th vs the Tampa Bay Lightning and April 5th vs the Florida Panthers, April 7th vs the Dallas Stars and April 9th vs the Montreal Canadiens in which he would record 8 goals and 4 assists over the 5 games. On Apr 2/22, Matthews would wear these skates while recording his 51st goal of the season, and 250th of his NHL career. Skating in his just his 397th NHL game, Matthews became the 8th quickest player to record 250 NHL career goals, behind only Wayne Gretzky (302), Mike Bossy (315), Mario Lemieux (324), Brett Hull (328), Alex Ovechkin (366), Teemu Selanne (388) and Jari Kurri (389). On Apr 4/22, Matthews would again wear these skates while recording his 7th NHL career hat-trick which included tying the Maple Leafs single season goal record of 54 goals, held by Rick Vaive since 1981-82. On Apr 7/22, Matthews would again wear these skates while recording goals #55 & #56, breaking the franchise single season goal record and surpassing Jimmy Carson (55 in 1987-88) and Kevin Stevens (55 in 1992-93) for the most goals scored in an NHL season by a player born in the United States. Matthews would last wear these skates on Apr 9/22 while recording goals #58 & #59 on the season, where he would become the first player to record 50 goals in a 50 game stretch since Mario Lemiuex in 1995-96. In 2021-22, Matthews would become the first Maple Leaf to score 60 in a season, securing his second straight Rocket Richard trophy as the NHL's leading goal scorer, joining Ovechkin and Pavel Bure as the only players to win the Rocket in back to back seasons since originally being awarded in 1998-99. On June 21st, 2022, Auston Matthews was awarded the Ted Lindsay Award, as the NHL's Most Outstanding Player judged by the NHLPA, as well as the Hart Memorial Trophy, as the NHL's Most Valuable Player throughout the 2021-22 NHL season, joining Ted Kennedy (1954-55) and Babe Pratt (1943-44) as the only Maple Leafs to win the Hart since originally being awarded in 1923-24. Matthews' record tying set of CCM Tacks ASV Pro skates feature the Maple Leafs Alternate uniform black & yellow colour scheme, personal milestones from early in his hockey career, display solid game wear which is great for photo-matching to multiple key milestones and are accompanied by a letter of authenticity along with an 8x10 image of Matthews wearing the skates on Apr 9/22 vs MTL.
