Item Description

Vintage travel trunk that has been in use with the Toronto Maple Leafs equipment staff since the mid 1900's. This well constructed travel trunk on wheels, marked as trunk #3, measures roughly 32" in height, 45" in width and 30" in length and was regularly used for road game travel in numerous decades of National Hockey League seasons and by various members of the training staff including the legendary Tommy Naylor, Joe Sgro, Guy Kinnear, Danny Lemelin, Arkady Tevlin, Brian Papineau, Bobby Hastings and potentially as far back as Tim Daley. The extraordinary trunk would have originally lived inside the Leafs dressing room at historic Maple Leaf Gardens and carried equipment of the Maple Leafs on road trips, both via train & air, to original six arenas such as the Montreal Forum, Detroit Olympia, Boston Garden, Chicago Stadium & Madison Square Garden in New York. Some of the gear that travelled in this trunk would of belonged to Leafs legends such as George Armstrong, Tim Horton, Johnny Bower, Red Kelly, Dave Keon, Darryl Sittler, Borje Salming, Wendel Clark, Mats Sundin and potentially as far back as Ted Kennedy, and would of been apart of at least four Stanley Cup Championships in 1962, 1963, 1964 & 1967. The trunk contains a ton of wear after 60+ years of use and over time has accumulated marks, chips, dings, scratches, ripped leather handles, broken latches, wheel modifications, displays "Property of Toronto Maple Leaf Hockey Club #3" and is in terrific shape with lots of life left in it and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity along with a framed 8x10 photo of Tommy Naylor in the early 1960's with the #3 marked trunk, holding the sticks of Maple Leafs forwards Dick Duff and Dave Keon during their run of back to back to back Stanley Cups. Naylor was apart of the Maple Leafs training staff from the late 1920's until the early 1970's. Also included is a framed 11x14 photo of Danny Lemelin in the 1970's. Both frames hung proudly in the Leafs equipment room, over numerous NHL seasons, to honor the legendary trainers and are accompanied by letters of authenticity.
